ACUPUNCTURE & CHINESE MEDICINE

Traditional Chinese Medicine has been successfully practiced for over 2,000 years and is considered by many to be the original system of holistic medicine. Chinese medicine integrates the use of acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping and moxibustion in addition to dietary & lifestyle recommendations specific to the individual's constitution and particular health concerns. Treating both the root cause of illness, and the symptoms that arise due to energetic imbalances, results in healing that reaches a deep level and tends to be lasting.

She graduated from Bastyr University in 2011 with a Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal medicine. She is recognized by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and is credentialed with most major health insurances in the state of Washington.

Sydney credits her upbringing in a family-line of physicians, as well as her love of nature and plant medicine, for her desire to practice Traditional Chinese Medicine. Sydney received her undergraduate degree in Botany from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA and her Masters in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine from Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA. Addressing health and well-being outside of the typical model of pharmaceutical drugs and symptom-based care has been a long-time interest of hers. She is passionate about alternative forms of healing which highlight preventative care and the important connection between mind and body in attaining whole health. She also enjoys working with people and hearing their stories. Her time at Bastyr included clinical work in the HIV, Refugee, and Chronic Fatigue Acupuncture Clinics at Seattle’s Harborview Hospital where she witnessed the benefits of acupuncture in a variety of different cases. In 2011 she completed an externship at the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Chengdu, China. It was the highlight of her education to observe the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine in its homeland.

Returning from Asia, Sydney spent two years under the mentorship of Dr. Jing Liu, L.Ac., OMD, PhD, leading Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist in Scottsdale, Arizona, renowned for her work in fertility support and pediatric care. At that time she was fortunate to also mentor under doctor and academician Dr. Shi Xue Min from TianJin, China. His development of the ‘Xing Nao Kai Qiao’ acupuncture method has been effective in treating post-stoke conditions as well as many other nervous system disorders. During her time in Arizona Sydney treated a number of cases ranging from pain management, stress, allergy, and cold to stroke rehabilitation, Tourette’s/ADHD in children, and infertility.

Sydney continues to focus her practice on pain management, hormonal imbalances, and certain neurological disorders. She enjoys working with a wide variety of patients from children to the elderly. Her practice incorporates the use of Acupuncture with Chinese Herbal therapies to bring a greater sense of health and well-being to her patients.

An experienced TCM practitioner with a passion for alternative healthcare, Sydney is communicable and investigative with knowledge and skill in the art of building trusting relationships with patients, providing exceptional care, and inspiring individuals to become more involved in improving their health.  She also enjoys many of the wonders of the outside world, travel to exotic places, yoga, and eating well.

What to expect during your first visit

Your first office visit with will be an hour and a half long. We will have time to discuss your particular health concerns as well as your health history, diet and lifestyle, exercise, emotional tendencies, and current stress levels. It is very helpful if you bring a list of all supplements and medications that you are currently taking (with brands and dosages) as well as the approximate length of time you have been taking them. As a diagnostic tool we will feel the pulse on both wrists and examine your tongue.

We will use this information to assess any patterns of disharmony that exists and devise a treatment plan specifically for you. You will then receive an acupuncture treatment that will last about 25-40 minutes; we will insert the needles and leave you to rest. Most people report feeling deeply relaxed after a session and many fall asleep during treatment.

A recommendation will be made for when to schedule a follow-up visit.  When treating acute pain or deep-seated conditions, a series of treatments may be necessary to make lasting changes. In certain cases, bi-weekly treatments (for 2-3 weeks) may bring one fastest relief. Your treatment plan may also include dietary and lifestyle recommendations and possibly a Chinese herbal formula prescription.
